Former Business Manager Sentenced for Stealing $74,000 From Church

WICHITA, KS—Lanora Michelle Driskill Spigarelli, 43, Frontenac, Kan., was sentenced today to three years federal probation and ordered to pay more than $74,000 in restitution to the church where she used to work.

Spigarelli pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud. In her plea, she admitted she embezzled $74,027 from her employer, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 S. Cherokee in Frontenac, Kan. The crime occurred from January 2006 through September 2007 while Spigarelli was working as the church’s business manager. She placed stolen money in the U.S. mails when she used it to pay her personal bills.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation worked on the case. U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch was the prosecutor.
