FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FORT LEONARD WOOD WOMAN INDICTED FOR MURDER OF INFANT DAUGHTER
CHILD ABUSE ALLEGED IN DEATH
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a woman at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., was indicted by a federal grand jury today for killing her infant daughter.
Kristin Marie Phillips, 33, of Fort Leonard Wood, was charged with killing her 11-month-old daughter, Alexis Phillips, by depriving her of nourishment in the perpetration of child abuse. Today’s indictment replaces a federal criminal complaint that was filed against Phillips on March 13, 2008. Phillips’ husband is a soldier who was deployed to Iraq at the time of the alleged offense but has since returned to Fort Leonard Wood.
Wood cautioned that the charge contained in this indictment is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Kelleher. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Criminal Investigation Division of the United States Army.
