7-YEAR FEDERAL SENTENCE FOR MAN WHO ROBBED TOPEKA BAR

TOPEKA, KAN. – Kenneth Eugene Allen, Jr., 36, Topeka, was sentenced Tuesday to 7 years in federal prison for an armed robbery in 2005 at Scottie’s bar and grill in Topeka.

Allen pleaded guilty in December 2006 to one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. He was sentenced Tuesday in a hearing before U.S. District Judge Sam A. Crow.

In his plea, Allen admitted that on Dec. 18, 2005, he and co-defendant Joseph Lee Allen robbed Scottie’s, a privately owned and operated bar and grill at 901 S.W. Fairlawn in Topeka. Brandishing a black revolver, they demanded the bartender give them money. After receiving the money, they left the bar.

Allen later was arrested at 3137 S.E. Dupont in Topeka.
Co-defendant Joseph Lee Allen is awaiting trial.

U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Hough for their work on the case.
