CITIZEN REPORT LEADS TO ARREST, FEDERAL CHARGE IN BANK ROBBERYKANSAS CITY, KAN. – Glenn Michael Watson, 56, Kansas City, Kan., was charged Wednesday with one count of armed bank robbery. A criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court charged Watson with the March 20, 2007, armed robbery at U.S. Bank, 700 W. Central Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. According to the complaint, Watson entered the bank at about 4:30 p.m. March 20 and shouted, “This a robbery! I’ve got a gun.” He was carrying a .38-caliber revolver, which he pointed at a teller when he demanded money. Outside the bank, a man who had been driving southbound on 7th Street near Central was stopped by another man who told him the bank was being robbed. The driver called police on his cell phone and then saw Watson leaving the bank. Watson got into a blue Ford Explorer and drove away. The driver followed Watson, using his cell phone again to give police Watson’s tag number. The driver followed Watson from Central Avenue onto Interstate 670, then to Interstate 70 eastbound and eventually off Interstate 70 at the Brooklyn Street exit. The driver continued to follow Watson until he turned on Garfield, a dead end street and parked. The driver saw Watson leave the Explorer and run toward the east while shedding some of his clothes. Police from Kansas City, Mo., arrived shortly and took Watson into custody. Watson is set for a detention hearing at 9 a.m. Friday. If convicted, Watson faces a maximum penalty of 25 years and a fine up to $250,000. The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department, the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Rask is prosecuting.
