MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO BANK ROBBERIES
KANSAS CITY, Mo.
- John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri,
announced that an Atlanta, Ga., man pleaded guilty in federal court
today to robbing or attempting to rob two banks on the same day.
Dan W. Russell, 41, of Atlanta, pleaded guilty before U.S. District
Judge Howard F. Sachs this afternoon to the charges contained in two
separate indictments.
Russell admitted that he stole $1,226 from Enterprise Bank and Trust,
7612B Prairie View Rd., Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 24, 2006. Russell
placed a demand note on a teller counter and ordered the teller to empty
the drawer.
Russell also admitted that, on the same day, he attempted to rob the
Bank of Atchison, 701 N. Kansas Ave., Atchison, Kan.
Under federal statutes, Russell could be subject to a sentence of up
to 40 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $500,000
and an order of restitution. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled
after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States
Probation Office.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Michael
Warner. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation,
the St. Joseph, Mo., Police Department, the Kansas City, Mo., Police
Department, the Platte County, Mo., Sheriff's Department, and the Missouri
Highway Patrol.
