GEORGIA MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO BANK ROBBERIES

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - John F. Wood, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that an Atlanta, Ga., man pleaded guilty in federal court today to robbing or attempting to rob two banks on the same day.

Dan W. Russell, 41, of Atlanta, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs this afternoon to the charges contained in two separate indictments.

Russell admitted that he stole $1,226 from Enterprise Bank and Trust, 7612B Prairie View Rd., Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 24, 2006. Russell placed a demand note on a teller counter and ordered the teller to empty the drawer.

Russell also admitted that, on the same day, he attempted to rob the Bank of Atchison, 701 N. Kansas Ave., Atchison, Kan.

Under federal statutes, Russell could be subject to a sentence of up to 40 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $500,000 and an order of restitution. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Michael Warner. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the St. Joseph, Mo., Police Department, the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department, the Platte County, Mo., Sheriff's Department, and the Missouri Highway Patrol.
