Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Raymore, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for robbing Allen Bank and Trust Company in Raymore, Mo. Scott Dujuan Hazel, 18, of Raymore, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs this morning to five years and 10 months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Hazel to pay $4,524 in restitution. Hazel, a student at Raymore-Peculiar High School at the time of the robbery, admitted that he entered Allen Bank and Trust Company, 1000 Foxwood Drive in Raymore, just before 5 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2005, and announced, "This is a hold up." Brandishing a knife in his right hand and a small blue nylon bag in his left hand, Hazel ordered everyone to sit down on the floor. Hazel claimed that the blue nylon bag was a bomb and that he would detonate the device if anyone failed to comply with his wishes, repeating several times, "This is for real." After tellers placed $6,610 in a bag, Hazel began asking who owned various cars in the parking lot. The clerk offered the keys to her vehicle and Hazel left the bank, but was unable to start the car. One of the bank employees recognized Hazel during the robbery and identified him as a customer of the bank. This case was
prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Michael Warner. It was investigated
by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. # # # # |
