SPRINGFIELD MAN SENTENCED FOR BANK ROBBERYSPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Springfield, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for robbing Great Southern Bank in Springfield. Thomas Charles Goodfellow, 51, of Springfield, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan this morning to 12 years and seven months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Goodfellow to pay $1,800 in restitution. On Dec. 16, 2005, Goodfellow pleaded guilty to robbing Great Southern Bank, 723 N. Benton Ave. in Springfield. Goodfellow admitted that he entered Great Southern Bank at about noon and handed the teller a note that said, “Place 2500. 25. 100$ bills in an envelope & don’t make any alarm until I’ve left the bank.” Goodfellow put his hand in his coat pocket and gestured as if he had a gun in his pocket. The teller placed $1,900 in the envelope and handed the envelope to Goodfellow, after which he left the bank. Schlozman noted that $100 has already been recovered from Goodfellow, in addition to today’s court order for restitution, and will be returned to the bank. This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas C. Bunch. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Springfield, Mo., Police Department.
