Citizen's Academy Program

The Kansas City FBI Citizen's Academy's goal is to enable the FBI to reach out to business, civic, religious and community leaders and provide for them an inside look at the FBI. The objective is to increase public awareness about the FBI, its mission, its activities, and its people; To provide an avenue for the FBI to hear and respond to community issues and concerns; and To strengthen relationships and improve understanding between the FBI and the communities it serves. The Academy is a stimulating eight-week (10-session) program in which personations and hands-on activities are provided regarding the FBI priorities and programs. Topics include, Terrorism, Violent Crimes, White Collar Crimes, Cyber Crimes, Legal Issues, Employment opportunities, Evidence Recovery and SWAT, Firearms safety and the deadly force policy.

The Kansas City FBI Citizens' Academy has been operational since April of 1999. Each class consists of approximately 25 students. Participants of the Academy are chosen by the Special Agent in Charge of their local FBI field office. Candidates may be nominated by FBI employees, Citizens' Academy Alumni or self nomination. The program is hosted in Kansas City once to twice yearly.
